Da’African Village representative meets and transfers tour group to
Novotel. Check-in and orientation with Da’African Village team. Meet with tailors, designers and hairdressers. Enjoy lunch offered by Da’African
Village. Welcoming dinner.

DAKAR CITY TOUR
9:00 AM breakfast then start the city sightseeing tour. Watch basket weaving, glass tile painting, or wood carving at Marché Kermel, a local
market, housed in beautiful open-air Victorian-style buildings. Then proceed to Independence Square (Place de l’Indépendance), the Presidential Palace, Our Lady of Victories Cathedral, the African Renaissance Monument (Monument de la Renaissance Africaine), a 49-meter tall bronze statue, and the handicraft village of Marché Soumbédioune.

TOUR TO GORÉE ISLAND & NYE CELEBRATION
9:00 AM breakfast then travel by ferry to Gorée Island, the once departure point for millions of slaves. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch at Le Saint-Germain Restaurant, then tour the ancient slave house to see where slaves were jailed until their departure to the Americas. Visit the IFAN Museum, an open-air market, a cathedral, and much more. Back to Darkar at 5.00 PM. New Year’s Eve Naming Ceremony with entertainment.

PINK LAKE & DINNER WITH KOUNTA FAMILY AT KEUR MASSAR
After breakfast, depart to the mysterious Pink Lake through the historic towns of Pikine, Thiaroye, and the Garden ballet of Niayes. Discover, on the jeep, the incredible rose-colored body of water surrounded by sand dunes then dinner with Da’African Village at Keur Massar. Back to Dakar.

Travel to the city of Toubakouta, which is on the main road between Kaolack and The Gambia.

TOUBAKOUTA (SALOUM ISLAND) TOUR
After breakfast, visit Sine-Saloum, a marsh area covered with mangroves and traversed by the inextricable network of canals and lakes formed by the delta of two small coastal rivers Sine and Saloum. In the evening, board a motorized boat (pirogue) to discover a reposer of birds. Overnight at Keur Saloum Hotel.

After breakfast, embark on an air-conditioned bus to Banjul, the capital city of The Gambia. Visit the ancestor village of Alex Haley in Albreda, then travel via pirogue to Kounta Kinteh Island (formerly known as James Island). Return to Albreda for a ferry journey back to Banjul. Check into Laico Atlantic Beach Hotel (or similar) late afternoon. Enjoy a delicious buffet dinner.

AM breakfast. Option A: Enjoy a leisurely morning and an optional afternoon tour to Joal-Fadiouth, the birthplace of President Senghor. We’ll also tour a village and learn drumming and dancing. Enjoy the arrival of fishermen. Option B: Enjoy a free day of personal exploration.

NIGHT: We will attend a Naming Ceremony at Pink Lake, where you will receive an African name that best describes and suits your personality.

Visas:

Senegal does not require visas for US passport holders. A visa for The Gambia is required for US citizens and we will assist you with obtaining it.

Medical:

Only yellow fever inoculation is required for Senegal. Malaria pills are highly recommended; but please consult with your doctor for the proper type of medication for you.

Security:

Homeland Security requires us to send them pertinent information that is in your passport before you travel; we therefore request a high-resolution, color copy of your passport picture page.
