Travel Itinerary:

Day 1 – Thursday, October 20 {D}
ARRIVAL IN GHANA
Arrival in Accra, Ghana. Meet Sunseeker Tours Rep after going through customs and baggage claims. Depart to La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, where you will be welcomed by hotel staff, enjoy a welcome drink, and orientation.

(Delta flight DL 156 departing from JFK Airport, NY on 10/19 at 23:45 and arriving at Kotoka International Airport, Accra, Ghana on 10/20 at 14:02)


DAY 2- Friday, October 21 {B/D} 

ACCRA CITY TOUR
Embark on a sightseeing tour. Drive through Accra, the capital of Ghana, enjoy colonial-style and contemporary architecture, visit the W.E.B Du Bois Memorial Centre for Panafrican Culture, drive through downtown Accra and visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park – the final resting place of Ghana’s first president. Learn about Nkrumah’s influence in Africa and the world during colonial times and his fight for independence. Tour the Artists Alliance Gallery to view artwork from renowned artists from across the continent, and we’ll wrap up the city tour at the cultural center, where you can shop for souvenirs and artifacts. Return to the hotel in preparation for dinner.


Day 3 – Saturday, October 22 {B/D}

ABURI BOTANICAL GARDEN & CENTRE FOR PLANT MEDICINE
After breakfast, depart to the Akuapem Mountains and visit Aburi Botanical Gardens. Established in 1890; the garden houses about 700 plant species, numerous flowers, and butterflies. Some of the plants were planted by visiting presidents from various countries. Afterward, we will drive to the Mampong Herbal Research Institute a.k.a the Centre for Plant Medicine
Research, and learn about herbal medicine and its usage.


Day 4 – Sunday, October 23 {B/D} 

CAPE COAST & ELMINA CASTLES MASSAR
After breakfast and check out, embark to Cape Coast, the former capital of the Gold Coast and tour the Cape Coast Castle built by the Swedes in 1653. History will unfold the story of the slave trade, where the impact is still felt beyond the shores of Africa. The castle houses a historical museum established by the Smithsonian Institute in collaboration with the Ghanaian Government in 1994. Tour the Elmina Castle – the first European building built south of the Sahara by the Portuguese in 1482. Accommodation: Coconut Grove Beach Resort.


Day 5 – Monday, October 24 {B/D}

KAKUM NATIONAL PARK & ELMINA FISHING VILLAGE
After breakfast, depart to the Kakum National Park, West Africa’s most noted tropical rain forest. Experience the soothing effects of being in a tropical rain forest and discover the wide variety of exotic flora species and the medicinal values they offer. Take a walk on the tree top canopy walkway, 100 ft. above the forest floor, and walk through the fishing village of Elmina.


Day 6 – Tuesday, October 25 {B/D}

BISA ABERWA MUSEUM/AFTERNOON R&R
After breakfast, visit the Bisa Abrewa Museum, then enjoy some afternoon R&R at the Coconut Grove Beach Resort. Visit the crocodile ponds, enjoy horseback riding, and many other activities.

Day 7 – Wednesday, October 26 {B/D}
ASSIN MANSO ANCESTRAL SLAVE RIVER PARK & KUMASI

After breakfast and check out, we will visit the Assin Manso Ancestral Slave River Park, which was opened in 1994 to celebrate Emancipation Day. Embark on a long drive through the forest region to Kumasi, the capital city of the Ashanti Kingdom. The city will offer you monuments of legendary kings and warriors, huge open-air markets, and cultural centers. Check-in at Golden Tulip Accra Hotel.


Day 8 – Thursday, October 27 {B/D}

CITY TOUR OF KUMASI KUMASI
After breakfast, embark on a tour of Kumasi, formerly known as The Garden City; we will visit the Manhiya Palace Museum of the Ashanti kingdom, the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum, and the Komfo Anokye Sword Site in that order.


Day 9 – Friday, October 28 {B/D}

CRAFT VILLAGE TOURS
We will visit Adanwomase Weaving Village for colorful kente cloth woven for the royal families of the Ashanti Kingdom. You might be selected to try weaving a kente cloth after seeing a demonstration of the intricate weaving technique. We will visit Ntonso for adinkra print cloth, and the cultural center, for the opportunity to buy directly from the artisans.


Day 10 – Saturday, October 29 {B/D}

AKOSOMBO & BOAT RIDE ON Lake VOLTA
After breakfast and check out, we will drive to Akosombo, a town in the eastern region, and take a boat ride on the largest man-made lake in the world, Lake Volta. We will tour the The Akosombo hydroelectric dam a.k.a The Volta Dam, and then depart to the town of Ho and check into Volta Serene Hotel.


Day 11 – Sunday, October 30 {B/D}

TAFI ATOME MONKEY SANCTUARY & WLI FALLS
We will depart for the Agumasta mountain range in the Hohoe district and walk through farm paths to visit Wli Falls. We will then drive to Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, where we will take pictures with friendly monkeys after feeding them.


Day 12, Monday, October 31 {B/D}

DEPART TO ACCRA
After breakfast, we will check out and depart to Accra. Accommodation: La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.


Day 13 – Tuesday, November 1 {B/D}

SHOPPING!
After breakfast, we will visit the art center and other souvenir shops because it’s shopping time! Enjoy a farewell dinner.


Day 14 – Wednesday, November 2 {B}

TRAVELING BACK TO THE U.S.
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight.

(Delta flight DL 157 departing from Kotoka International Airport, Accra, Ghana on 11/2 at 22:05 and arriving at JFK Airport, NY on 11/03 at 5:35.)

Things to bring with you

  • Washcloths, because most hotels don’t give guest washcloths.
  • European electrical systems are used in Ghana, so please bring adapters (220v) for phones and other electronics.
  • Consider bringing T-shirts (esp. ones with American sports logos); any digital electronics, jeans, sneakers, baseball caps, toiletries, lipstick, nail polish and perfumes as these items are always great for bartering.
  • Bring snacks because you might not always find food during long rides between destinations.
  • You will be walking a lot in very hot weather, so bring a hat and comfortable walking shoes.

VISAS

A visa is required for entry to Ghana for all American citizens. We will assist you with obtaining it.

Health Advisory

  • Only yellow fever inoculation is required for Ghana.
  • Bring plenty of insect repellent and sunscreen.
  • Malaria pills are highly recommended; but please consult with your doctor for the proper type of medication for you.
  • Sanitary conditions in most places (bathrooms, restaurants, etc.) are not always up to western standards, so please bring hand wipes and antibacterial handwash/sanitizer.

Homeland Security

Homeland Security requires us to send them pertinent information that is in your passport before you travel; we, therefore, request a high resolution, color copy of your passport picture page emailed to us

Cost Summary:

  • Deposit: $500 (this is a non-refundable/non-transferable deposit)
  • Base cost/person: $5,200.00
  • Cost for an additional single occupancy room: $600.00/person 
  • Deposit Due: Now or before August 28, 2022
  • Final Payment Due: Now or before September 20, 2022
  • Cancel without penalty: Before September 20, 2022

The full cost includes the airline ticket. Seats are limited as the price is based on a maximum of 20 people. Standard hotel rooms are double occupancy (for 2 adults).

  • Personal items and services such as laundry, emailing, faxing, telephone services, souvenirs, etc.

Before mailing in your application and $500 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit, please read our cancellation policy and terms located below. 

IMPORTANT: The name on your airline ticket and passport must match. If this is not the case, you will be charged an airline service fee of $350 to reissue your ticket in the correct name. Cancellation Policy & Terms

AIRFARES:
All airfares and/or taxes are subject to change until contracted or ticketed.

CANCELLATION FEES FOR TRAVELERS:
90 days or more $500 per person; 89-61 days 20% off tour cost; 60 days or less only monies that may be recovered from the overseas supplier(s) will be refunded. 45 days or less NO REFUND. Travel Insurance is strongly recommended. Your deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable.

CHANGS IN THE ITINERARY:
Da’African Village will make every effort to operate all tours according to the itinerary (as shown in this brochure) or included in your final travel documents. However, due to the COVID-19 Global Pandemic, we might be required to adjust the itinerary.

Other voluntary or involuntary situations may also arise which would require changes in the itinerary. These include weather, changes in airline schedules, government appropriation of hotel space, or events that are beyond the control of Da’African Village. If any of these events occur, we reserve the right to alter the itinerary as deemed necessary.

If there are any savings realized by these changes, they will be passed on to the traveler. Every effort will be made to confirm the hotels and lodges named in this brochure and the itinerary.

If these hotels and/or lodges cannot be confirmed or must be changed once confirmed, we will select an appropriate property in the same category. All itineraries, hotels, and venues are subject to last-minute change. Any changes will be discussed with tour leaders before confirmation.
